1. Define your target audience and goals
We do this in my company Strategic Advisory Board, with a few simple steps. First, research your niche, analyze your competitors, and find out what type of content interests your audience. Test different types of content until you find what resonates best with your audience — don’t just blindly post content.
2. Create engaging content
TikTok is an excellent platform for businesses to engage with their audience, which requires creating engaging content. To stand out, videos should be short, to the point, visually appealing, and authentic. Your videos can also be more memorable by incorporating humor that fits your brand.
Ensuring you have access to quality lighting and sound in your videos is crucial. Shooting your videos in front of a natural light window can work perfectly if you don’t have a ring light or other studio lighting. Pro tip: using the camera on the back of your phone versus the front camera (or selfie cam) will create higher quality videos, and using a microphone—even a small lapel microphone—will improve your audio quality significantly.
As a bonus, music, effects, and filters can enhance your TikTok content. Using music and effects in your TikTok videos is a great way to set the tone and mood, stay true to the brand, and evoke your audience’s emotions.
Creating engaging, shareable content is key to building your business on TikTok. Companies can present their brand creatively and expand their presence on the platform by identifying or polarizing themselves, participating in trends or creating their own trends.

3. Collaborate with influencers
One way to increase brand awareness and reach new audiences is to find and use influencers. Use TikTok’s search feature to narrow your search for influencers whose content fits your brand’s personality and audience.
You also want to pay attention to how much engagement and views the influencer’s videos are getting. It’s best to work with a mix of influencers at different levels as it allows you to make the most of your budget. Micro influencers have between 10,000 and 100,000 followers and macro influencers have over 100,000. Mega influencers are accounts with more than 1 million followers.
You can negotiate compensation and cooperation terms based on previous partnerships and engagement rates. Clearly define your campaign expectations and provide the information needed to create engaging content. Evaluate the engagement parameters and adjust them for future collaborations.
If you can offer something exclusive to that particular influencer’s audience, like a discount code, that can also help drive engagement.
4. Leverage TikTok ads
There are several steps involved in creating a successful TikTok ad. When creating ads, you can target specific audiences based on factors such as age, gender, location, interests, and behaviors. Make sure you use these options to target your audience and convey a clear and concise call to action. Do you want the target audience to visit your website, follow your account, or make a purchase?
You can choose from multiple types of TikTok ads to grow your business. Using in-feed ads is a great tool to get your services in front of a large audience. Try a few different types and see what works best for you.
Try out challenges with your audience to create engaging ads. Gymshark and elf Cosmetics, for example, achieved over 3 billion views with their videos #Gymshark66 And #eyeslipsface Challenges. Get creative and use challenges to build your community and bring them closer together.

5. Interact with your audience
Building your brand presence on TikTok requires interacting with your audience. You can build meaningful connections with your followers by following these tips:
- If you respond to your audience’s comments sooner or later, you show that you value their input and engagement.
- Using tools like polls and question-and-answers can help increase audience engagement and shows that you’re listening to your audience and learning more about their needs.
- Sharing content behind the scenes can help make your brand more personable and differentiate you from the competition. Consider sharing funny deleted scenes or glitches to add character to your content.
- Engaging your audience in giveaways and contests is a great way to leverage user-generated content.
If you show your audience that you value them and that you take the time and feedback they give you, you can build a thriving TikTok community of loyal followers for your business.
6. Promote your TikTok account
Your TikTok account is up, but how do you promote it?
Draw your fans away from other platforms by promoting your videos on places like Instagram and Facebook. Add your TikTok handle to your BIOS on other platforms and mention that you have exclusive content not found anywhere else. Use trending hashtags and music in your videos to benefit from the latest trends. To find out which sounds are trending, I recommend searching for creator recommendations using hashtags like #trendingsound, #trendalert, and #soundsforcontentcreators.
Get exposure with other TikTok accounts in your niche by cross-promoting with them. Make agreements with other account creators to promote their content when they promote your content. This is different from paid sponsorship and can be done for free.
Use other popular videos and create a stitch from them. A stitch is when you take a portion of another creator’s video and stitch your video with it. You can agree or disagree with the original content and explain why you are where you are. Get creative, have fun, and promote your account now—or regret it later.
